Seiland National Park, a remote island in northern Norway, is a true hidden gem for ski touring far from the crowds. Many routes begin directly at the fjord or are accessed by boat transfer—often with skis on right from the accommodation. The authentic “sea-to-summit” experience is not the exception here, but everyday reality.
A unique feature: across the entire vast touring area around the island, no more than three ski touring groups are active at the same time. This guarantees untouched slopes, complete silence, and a wilderness experience that has become rare today. The striking Seilandstuva rises above the 1,000-meter mark, while the Seilandsjøkelen is among the northernmost glaciers in Scandinavia—creating ideal conditions for ski touring in Norway with breathtaking sea views.
The combination of alpine terrain, secluded summits, deep snow-covered slopes, and the magic of the Northern Lights makes guided ski tours in Finnmark an unforgettable experience for those seeking something truly special.

Fjord to Summit Ski touring Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival Day for our Ski touring week Seiland island, Norway
Individual flight to Alta, Norway.
Included transfer with bus and ferry to our wonderful accommodation.
Day 2 – Day 7: Ski touring days
Every day — ski touring and sailing. There is a wide range of ski touring options, with several tours above Seland House and others accessible via motorboat in adjacent fjords.
A typical day begins at the dock of Seiland House with a short transfer by motorboat. Tours usually gain 800–1300 meters of vertical ascent (approximately 3–5 hours of climbing) and often descend along varied routes into a different fjord, where the boat awaits for the return—true sea-to-summit skiing.
Much of the terrain on Seiland is accessible only by boat—part of what makes this experience so unique. The highlight is Seilandstuva, the island’s highest peak, offering sweeping views across Norway’s northernmost glaciers and unforgettable descents that lead all the way to the sea. Across the Stjernsund, a short 20-minute crossing brings us to Stjernøya (Sámi: Stierdná), known for its dramatic fjords and classic ski tours such as Rottenhallen, the island’s highest summit.
Day 8: Travel home
After breakfast we travel back to Alta with the ferry and a bus.
Individual flight back home from Alta.

Where we stay during the Ski touring week Seiland island, Norway
Seiland House is a guesthouse located in the middle of a fantastic fjord landscape and just in the limits of Seiland National Park. The house is surrounded by stunning nature where steep mountains plunge into the sea.
Here you can find everything from steep, demanding skiing to easy tours in the birch forest. Seiland is, despite its fantastic scenery, a relatively new peak trip destination.
You can go for days in Seiland without seeing people or other ski tracks. A completely unique and different experience than the other big ski touring destinations places in Norway.
After a two hour flight from Oslo to Alta and a one hour boat ride, you find the beautiful island of Seiland out in the Alta Fjord.
Our guesthouse is located in Rognsundet, which lays in the southwestern part of Norway’s eighth largest island. It combines authentic charm with modern comfort. Our hosts, Stig and Diamela, welcome us warmly and ensure a truly pleasant stay in cozy double rooms, complemented by delicious, home-style cooking prepared with care. Single rooms are available upon request for an additional fee.
After a long and rewarding day in the mountains, there is nothing better than relaxing in the hot sauna. Later, we can unwind in the lodge’s cocktail bar, reflecting on an unforgettable day in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The lodge is very well maintained and offers many thoughtful amenities. However, it is not a hotel. For example, the rooms do not have private showers or toilets. Yet when we consider where we are — surrounded by vast, untouched mountain wilderness — it quickly becomes clear what a privilege it is to experience ski touring in such a remote and extraordinary setting.

Personal requirements
I have gained my first ski touring experience through an introductory course or by joining guided ski tours. Most tours are rated easy to moderately difficult and typically involve terrain with slopes of around 30°. Short, steeper sections provide enough space to make turns comfortably. I am able to manage kick turns during the ascent. Confident skiing in deep, ungroomed snow and parallel turns off-piste are expected skills.
In terms of fitness, I regularly practice endurance sports such as hiking, running, and cycling. I can handle around four hours of uphill travel per day, which corresponds to approximately 1,200 meters of elevation gain. A steady pace of about 300 vertical meters per hour feels comfortable for me.
Weather and Tour Conditions
Weather conditions can change quickly and unpredictably. Within a single day, you may experience fog, snowfall, and sunshine in rotation. Temperatures are similar to those typically encountered on ski tours in the Alps at elevations between approximately 2,000 and 3,000 meters above sea level.
