Mountaineering Switzerland: Evèque 3717m & Pigne d’Arolla 3790m

Dates for mountaineering Switzerland: July – September

Two beautiful peaks standing in the Swiss Alps just about between Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. Pigne d’Arolla 3790m and L’Evèque 3716m. The canton of Wallis and the small town of Arolla which lie at the end of the Hérens valley are our starting point. Pigne d’Arolla is one of the classic peaks on the Chamonix-Zermatt Haute Route. Join us on this mountaineering Switzerland experience.

Day 1: Arolla 2100m – Cabane des Vignettes 3160m

Meet in Arolla and hike up to Cabane des Vignettes at the Vignettes pass. Night at the mountain hut that belongs to the Swiss Alpine Club.

Day 2: L’Evèque 3716m – Cabane de Vignette 3160m

We climb Evèque mountain today. We descend to Col de Charmottane (3037m) continue on the glacier and start climbing up the mixed ridge to the summit. Same way back down to the hut. Night at the mountain hut.

  • +900 – 1000m
Day 3: Pigne d’Arolla 3790m – Arolla 2100m

We climb over the glacier up to Pigne d’Arolla and back down to Arolla. Pigne d’Arolla was first climbed in 1865.

  • +630m, – 1690m

Level required:

Used to alpine mountain terrain and glacier walking, very good fitness level. This tour requires some experience in mountaineering. The guide might adapt the program depending to weather and conditions.

Included in the price: Organisation, IFMGA-mountain guide for 3 days, 2 nights at Cabane de Vignette with half board, guides expenses

How to get to Arolla:

Take the train to Sion and switch to the public bus to Arolla. You can find the time tables from the Swiss public transport system here.
