Japan Powder Ski Trip

A ski trip to Japan means world-class powder skiing!

With the Hokkaido resorts benefiting from Siberian weather systems ensuring huge amounts of light dry powder. That’s why it’s also called Ja-Pow. Japan is a fascinating country with an interesting history and unique traditions that will captivate you. Whether it’s the food or the relaxing hotsprings “Onsens”, one thing is certain – a ski trip to Japan is one you will never forget.

“Hokkaido is the undisputed snow capital of Japan, famous for its heavy snowfalls and perfect powder. Some regions of the island receive up to 18 metres of snow each year!”

We will ski the ski areas around Niseko and Furano on the Japanese northern island Hokkaido and skitour the Volcanos Yotei, Shiribetsu and Tokachidake. We stay at nice lodges and B&B’s and the trip starts and ends at Sapporo New Chitose airport.

Experience Onsen / Hot Springs
Onsen (natural hot springs) are popular right across Japan, every prefecture in the volcanically active country from the cold north to the tropical south has its share of springs.
While they come in many varieties, separated gender and unisex, developed and more natural, indoor and outdoor, all hot springs have a relaxing effect on the body and mind. Many onsen are differentiated by the various health benefits associated with the type of minerals dissolved in the water. Regardless of where you choose to go, a visit to an onsen, is a highly recommended experience for anyone on a journey to Japan.
Tokachi Mountains – Our favorite place for ski touring and wild Onsen
There are no ski lifts in Central Hokkaido’s Tokachi Mountains, but they get plenty of amazing quality snow, and offer arguably the world’s most reliable backcountry powder skiing, with consistently good snow from mid-December through to mid-March. With touring bindings and skins we can access the great snow with a bit more effort than required riding ski lifts. That means we deserve more onsen rewards, and fortunately there are plenty, from little lodge onsen which are invariably open to the snow on one side at least, to total wilderness ones that we can take you to.
